🌍 OEM Moves: SAF-HOLLAND Completes CBXA AeroBeam™
On June 4, 2026, SAF-HOLLAND expanded its CBXA AeroBeam™ fixed-frame air suspension family with the CBXAS25 and CBXAS30, adding 25K- and true 30K-pound ratings to the existing CBXAN23 / CBXAS23 (23K) introduced in 2022. The series is positioned as the industry's lightest top-mount fixed-frame trailer air suspension, with a 5.75" diameter axle 19% stiffer than competitors, standard P89™ air disc brakes, and patented SwingAlign™ tool-free alignment. CBXAS25/30 are offered exclusively with parallel spindles.
Earlier in March, SAF-HOLLAND also released the UltraLite40™ slider for its ULX40 mechanical sliding suspension-30 lbs lighter and 3.6× more durable than the previous gen, scheduled for Q4 2026-showing how fierce the lightweighting race has become in North America.
🏭 China Supply Chain: CIMC "Star Plan" Phase II, Fuwa Expansion, Jin Tianma Heading to ¥10B
CIMC ("Zhongji"): Following the "Star Chain" program, the "Star Plan (2026–2030)" has launched. Shandong Zhongxing, as a core supplier, supplies air suspensions, low-profile disc-brake axles, and U.S.-spec high-capacity axles for CIMC's "UEFA" tanker semis. CIMC also built a "Running Gear Innovation Center" for full-lifecycle simulation of axles/suspensions. On June 17, CIMC released its TIR center-axle box van semi, with Ruililike TEBS-the timing matters because effective July 1, 2026, China mandates EBS on all commercial tractor + trailer combinations. TEBS with RSS and tractor-trailer communication become the de facto ticket to market.
Fuwa (Jiangmen): A new "50k units/year commercial chassis component expansion" project filed June 25. Overseas headwinds persist-India's second sunset review on Chinese trailer axles continues, current duty 0.16 USD/kg valid through Jan 2027.
Jin Tianma (Liaoning): Air-suspension guide-arm line (Workshop 5) in mass production; axle tube full-automation (Workshop 6, +50% efficiency); light-weight steel wheel full-chain automation (Workshop 7). Revenue target: ¥10 billion.
Patents: Mar 2026 - "E-drive axle air suspension system for semi-trailers" (CN223999294U, Suzhou Xin Yidai); Jun 26 - "Semi-trailer axle" (CN122275492A, Foshan Kaiguang) using elastic clamping + staggered arc plates to cut longitudinal impact on hard braking.
⚖️ Trade Remedies: U.S. 130%, India Sunset, Component-Level Coverage
The U.S. DOC preliminarily ruled 130.86% dumping margin (130.76% after subsidy offset) on Chinese van-type trailers and subassemblies. Critically, "subassemblies" are explicitly covered-axles, suspensions, brake hubs, landing gears routed via CKD to Canada/Mexico/SEA still face U.S. origin tracing. Final determination expected late August 2026.
Together with India's axle sunset review and Canada's final AD/CVD on Chinese truck bodies, the compliance cost for both complete semis and component exports from China is rising fast.
Takeaways
Lightweighting is the shared thread across China and the West (AeroBeam, UltraLite40, Jin Tianma, Fuwa MBS).
E-axle / e-axle + air-suspension integration is moving from patent to engineering (Suzhou Xin Yidai, Fuwa dual-motor axle patents).
Mandatory EBS in China (July 1) turns TEBS/RSS/tractor-trailer comms from "nice-to-have" into "must-have."
Trade barriers now cover subassemblies, not just complete vehicles-CKD workarounds are narrowing.
